How to generate a random number
- Type a minimum and maximum. The default is 1 to 100.
- Choose how many numbers you want, up to 50.
- Tick No repeats if each number should appear only once, for example for a raffle draw.
- Press Generate or hit Space.
Is this random number generator fair?
Yes. Each number is picked with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same source used for security keys. We use rejection sampling, so every value in your range is exactly as likely as any other. There is no bias towards low, high or "round" numbers.
What people use random numbers for
- Raffles and giveaways: number the entries and pick a winner. Use "No repeats" to draw several winners.
- Games: pick a number for guessing games, bingo-style draws or secret numbers.
- Classrooms: choose a student number, a page or a question at random.
- Testing and sampling: pick random IDs or sample positions without favouring any.
- Everyday choices: pick from a numbered list of restaurants, films or tasks.
Picking without repeats
With "No repeats" ticked, each number can only be drawn once in a single go. If you ask for more numbers than the range contains, you get every number in the range. For example, asking for 10 numbers between 1 and 6 returns the 6 possible values.
Prefer something simpler?
For a quick yes or no, use the yes or no coin. For up to 20 outcomes with a visual roll, use the dice roller. To pick from names rather than numbers, try the random name picker.
